WHAT ARE THE ELEMENTS OF ART?
The elements of art are "building blocks" used for creating a piece of art.
Artists manipulate these elements, mix them in with principles of design and compose a piece of art.
In this module, we will explore 4 basic elements - LINES, SHAPE, COLOUR and VALUE to get a thorough understanding through power point presentations and art.
LINE- What is a line? A line is a dot that went for a walk. Straight, dotted, curvy, scallops- there are many types or lines which can be used to create a well thought of and beautiful piece of art. However basic this may seem, the use of lines is of fundamental importance in the world of art. In this session we will talk about the different kinds of lines and use them to create a beautiful piece of art.
SHAPE- Like letters, symbols are a language, a visual language. They are used everywhere and are a powerful way to communicate. They may look very simple but in reality it is not that easy to simplify something to create a symbol. In this session we will learn to create symbols by combining two or more shapes.
COLOUR- Colours are such an integral part of our lives that we almost take them for granted. From the moment we open our eyes, we see colours. We all have our favourite colour/colours. But did you know that colours affect our moods? For example you must have heard the phrase 'feeling blue?' or 'green with envy' The right use of colours and their combinations can not only help you create beautiful art, but also balance and harmony in your life. In this session we will go back to basics of colour theory and talk about primary, secondary, tertiary and complimentary colours.
VALUES - light yellow, dark purple, orangish red. What are these? Learn all about hues, tints and shades in this session.
In this module we will be covering 4 of the few elements of art. After talking about each element, the children will do an extended art activity to make sure the concept is clear.
